Get Rid of Stink Bugs for Good!

Like many Marylanders, you may find yourself struggling with stink bugs this spring. Keep in mind, the best way to get rid of stink bugs in your home is to not let them into your home in the first place. Prevent them from getting in with these tips:
  • Seal all cracks and openings around windows, doors, siding, utility pipes, chimneys, and underneath your home’s wood fascia.
  • Pay close attention to holes or gaps in your attic and seal them with care. Attics are the most common point of entry for stink bugs.
  • Remove window- and wall- unit air conditioners as these are also an easy target for stink bugs.
  • Repair broken screens and windows.
  • Use caution if you opt to vacuum them up because their stink could still remain. Instead use a shop vac and take it outside immediately.
After stink bugs establish themselves in your home, it’s nearly impossible to get rid of them. Call us for help!

Save Money By Air Sealing This Spring!

Here’s how having your home air sealed could benefit you this spring and all summer long:

  • eliminate allergies
  • stop energy loss
  • keep your home cool
  • deter stink bugs (see more on this below)
Air Sealing Basics:
Sealing and insulating the “envelope” or “shell” of your home – its outer walls, ceiling, windows, doors, and floors – is often the most cost effective way to improve energy efficiency and comfort. ENERGY STAR estimates that a knowledgeable homeowner or skilled contractor can save up to 20% on heating and cooling costs (or up to 10% on their total annual energy bill) by sealing and insulating. To Seal and Insulate with ENERGY STAR:
  • Seal air leaks throughout the home to stop drafts,
  • Add insulation to block heat loss in winter and heat gain in summer,
  • Choose ENERGY STAR qualified windows when replacing windows
Sealing Air Leaks:
From our friends at ENERGY STAR:

Many air leaks and drafts are easy to find because they are easy to feel – like those around windows and doors. But holes hidden in attics, basements, and crawlspaces are usually bigger problems. Sealing these leaks with caulk, spray foam, or weather stripping will have a great impact on improving your comfort and reducing utility bills.
